Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese medicine acknowledges that all body systems are interconnected – and uses acupuncture (along with dietary and lifestyle changes) to restore the body’s balance.

The benefits of acupuncture extend to a wide variety of conditions including hormone balance, regulating irregular cycles, anxiety and stress, pain relief (arthritis, muscle pain, etc.), smoking cessation, insomnia, migraines, and respiratory challenges.

It’s also tremendously helpful and effective during pregnancy (for things like turning breach babies, inducing labour, and providing relief for morning sickness and heartburn) and for optimizing your body for conception.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Every new client relationship starts with an initial intake appointment where we’ll discuss what’s going on in your life, the challenges you’re having, what you’d like to achieve, and what you’re comfortable with. These sessions take 60 to 75 minutes.

Acupuncture treatments, which can be purchased individually or in packages of three or six, take 30 minutes each. While each treatment is different and will be tailored to your situation and comfort level, in a typical treatment I insert between 6 and 12 needles into various locations of your body (often your legs and arms).

While the treatment won’t be painful, you may feel a mild aching sensation when a needle reaches the correct depth. I may move or twirl the needles after placement or apply heat or mild electrical pulses to the needles. Once all the needles are in place at the right depth, you will relax for a period of time, and then they’ll be removed.
